SACC supports HB 2417

On Monday, April 12, Richard Perez, San Antonio Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, testified before the House Culture, Recreation & Tourism Committee in support of HB 2417. Sponsored by Vice Chair Barbara Gervin-Hawkins, HB 2417 will update the Texas Moving Image Industry Incentives program. More specifically, it would extend incentive opportunities for production facilities under the Texas Medical Production Zone Act.

We continue to support maintaining sufficient funding in the Texas Enterprise Fund and specifically the Media Production Development Zone Act as well as refreshing it with adequate funding to keep it competitive for major economic development opportunities. HB 2417 will enhance and diversify our state’s current investment in industry and infrastructure. As a Chamber we are proud to support the development of a film & production studio in San Antonio that will create:

  • New jobs

  • New academic and educational opportunities

  • New workforce development

  • Economic development on the South Side of San Antonio in one of our designated Opportunity Zones.

In addition, San Antonio remains one of the fastest growing cities in our state and the country. The capacity to create and tell inclusive and diverse stories for global audiences will continue to be in high demand. Ultimately, this is about rebuilding our economy together and taking advantage of equally unprecedented changes to a thriving industry. Stay tuned for an update in this week’s Chamber Today e-newsletter.
