Chamber prioritizes winter storm recovery in amended state legislative agenda
The recent winter storm was one of the most shocking and challenging for Texans and San Antonians in recent memory. We know recovering from the storm will take time and will be costly, for both businesses and residents. That is why the Chamber amended its state legislative agenda to include the following statement:
The Chamber urges the legislature to examine the impacts of the unprecedented winter storm and the subsequent power and water outages, as well as address the current and future mitigation costs for our education systems, businesses, and our ratepayers, both residential and business.
Since the storm, our state leaders have been focused on taking care of their constituents, helping to distribute water and access financial support for repairs. Now we are leaning on them to ensure through legislative action that Texas never experiences a situation like this again.
The winter storm could be the costliest disaster in state history, potentially exceeding the $125 billion in damage from Hurricane Harvey. The impact of the storm has and will continue to have costly effects on the supply chain, housing, insurance companies, and many other businesses. Addressing the issue is critically important to helping our community and the State continue to grow and attain businesses. Maintaining a sustainable and reliable infrastructure system is a key economic driver that keeps Texas competitive.
Your Chamber sent a letter to the Bexar County Delegation last week to inform them of the amendment and offer support during the process by providing testimony or simply offering insight on the impact of the storm.
